At the start of the lockdown, we teamed up with other Citizens UK member organisations to identify vulnerable households in need of food parcels and other essential items. Our offices were closed to visitors, but we continued to deliver a skeleton advice service working remotely from home using apps like WhatsApp and Zoom. We also joined other migrant organisations in membership of Citizens UK to produce a public health video to reach our community members. This project is a new way of working for us as we explore our capacity to engage our community through the production of video content.
We are a longstanding dues-paying member organisation of Citizens UK in Birmingham, a broad-based alliance of faith, education, trade union and community institutions developing leaders who act for the common good. We joined to strengthen and build new relationships with other communities in the city who are committed to building the power of civil society to win change.
Our organisation have played leading roles in Citizens UK campaigns: persuading NHS Commissioners to end gap in specialist mental health treatment for teenagers, to seeing major employers pay the real Living Wage to ensuring the City Council kept its pledge to resettle Syrian refugees from UN Camps.
In 2017, we were voted Institution of the Year to our delight! Here’s various galleries of our time involved in community organising.
